Mega Fortune Slot Yields Mega Fortune

Net Entertainment powered Unibet Casino announced a multimillion Euro hit on the progressive jackpot online slot game Mega Fortune. The lucky winner is a Dutch woman who won a life changing amount of just over €4.3 million with a bet of only €1.25. The name of the winner has not been revealed. The Swedish online gambling software provider is paying the amount in one lump payment.

Mega Fortune is a new slot game, released only in January 2009. It is appropriately based on the theme of wealth, with symbols like Yacht, Money, Cognac, Ring, Limousine and Watch on the reels. The free spins feature offers up to 100 free spins and the bonus game on the second screen is based on the wheel of fortune.

Petter Nylander, Chief Executive Officer for Unibet Casino said, “It is a true pleasure to congratulate a Unibet.com player on winning one of the largest jackpots in the history of online gambling.” Johan Ohman, Chief Executive Officer for Net Entertainment, also congratulated the winner. He added, “Our commitment to deliver first-class games pays off and, with monthly game releases, our licensees always have new content to offer their players.”

Somehow the Dutch government came to know of the win. It is impossible to keep such a big win quiet. There were two issues before the government. One was how to deal with this particular win. And the other was how to deal with Unibet Casino and Dutch players in general. The Dutch government holds privately operated online gambling to be illegal. A spokesperson for the Dutch ministry said that the winner’s money, though illegally obtained, will not be seized in all probability. However the spokesperson added that the “taxman must be satisfied”. Therefore the winner will have to pay taxes amounting to over €1 million and can then keep the remaining amount. What is left is still substantial.

The tricky part is how the Dutch government handles Unibet Casino. Experts say that there is little that the Dutch ministry can do on this front. The only option available to them is to try and persuade Unibet Casino not to sign up players from the Netherlands. However Unibet Casino is not likely to listen. Unibet Casino has a standing in the online gambling industry. It is owned by a company listed on the Stockholm stock exchange. But what will work most in favor of Unibet Casino is that it has the backing of the European Commission in this matter.

It is common knowledge that despite all the noise that the Dutch government is making against online gambling, nearly 4% of Dutch citizens gamble online at sports books, poker rooms and online casinos, and spend anywhere between €90 million and €280 million each year. Therefore no one is seriously bothered about the Dutch government’s stand.
